A common cause of verification issues with Stripe is setting up your account under the wrong business type. If your account is incorrectly listed as a Ltd company or Nonprofit, Stripe may request more documentation than necessary. For nonprofit fishing clubs, Stripe has confirmed that the correct entity type to select is Sole Trader / Individual.

Step 1: Verify Your Business Type in Stripe

The first thing to do is ensure that Stripe has identified your business correctly.

  1. Go to your Stripe dashboard.

  2. Click on Settings.

  3. Scroll down to the Tax Information section.

Here, you should see Individual / Sole Trader listed. If it's incorrect, you will need to contact Stripe support and request that your business type be updated to Individual / Sole Trader.

Step 2: Provide Required Documentation

Once your business type is correct, you'll need to provide one form of ID (either a passport or driver’s licence) and a proof of address. You can find the full list of acceptable verification documents here.

In most cases, Stripe will no longer require formal proof of address for the club. However, if they do, a bank statement should be sufficient.

Step 3: Final Checks

After completing these steps, you should be able to pass the verification process. If you encounter any further issues, please reach out to us, and we'll do our best to assist you.
