Adding a News post

Publishing a new club news story

Written by Rob Harris

News stories are added as posts rather than pages. Your site's news page picks them up automatically, so you never edit the news page itself.

1. Log in at yourclub.co.uk/wp-admin.

2. In the left menu click Posts, then Add New.

3. Type the headline in the title box.

4. Write your story in the main area below; just click and type, and ignore any pop-up suggestions about blocks. Keep paragraphs short; most people read news on a phone.

5. On the right, find Featured image and click Set featured image (if there's no panel on the right, click the cog at the top right to open it). Choose or upload a photo. This is the picture shown on your news page, so a good one earns its keep.

6. If your posts use categories (Match Reports, Club News and so on), tick the right one on the right hand side.

7. Click Publish, then Publish again to confirm.

8. Check your news page on the live site; the new story should sit at the top.

Tips

To fix a mistake after publishing, go to Posts, hover over the story, click Edit, make the change and click Update.

Posts are dated automatically, so there's no need to put the date in the headline.

If anything looks different on your site, message us through the help centre chat and we'll point you right.
