When sending a group or automated message, you can automatically personalise ery message with details relevant to the recipient using our dynamic field short codes.

This means you could send a group message to all of the contacts in the database, insert the [FirstName] short code in to your message and then when each recipient receives their message, it will be automatically display their own first name, making it look like you have sent an individual message just to that person.

Each short code pulls the relevant data out of that individuals profile automatically and then displays it in that individuals email only.

Here are a list of all of the standard short codes you can use in any of your emails or SMS messaging (individual, group, email templates & message automation)

Simply copy and paste the short code in to the relevant section of your message and it will work dynamically. Scroll further down this article to see how it works step by step.

Short codes in action

To show you how short codes, we are going to simulate sending a group message to existing members in the database, letting them know that they can log in and renew their membership (to learn how to send a Group Message, please visit this article).

To personalise the message, we want to include the members first name as part of the initial greeting. This gives the impression that the email has been sent individually.

So the first thing we do is copy and paste the [FirstName] short code after our opening greeting - 'Hi [FirstName],'

We also want to make sure that the member uses the same email address that is held on their account when logging back in, reducing the potential for them to create a duplicate record.

To do this, we shall display the current email address held against their profile in the email by adding the [Email] short code, prompting them to use the same one when logging back in.

You could add other short codes such as [FullName], [MembershipNo] or any other on the list that might be relevant to your message but for this example, we will use these two.

Once ready, click Go and the message will be delivered to all of your recipients.

When the message hits the recipients inbox, their own personal details will be automatically populated in place of the short codes.

This is just one example of how you can personalise your messaging. Feel free to be as creative as you like!

And remember, the short codes work across all types of messaging including our Message Automation feature, making it even easier to send personalised messages without having to send them individually!
